Chapter History
Fauquier Court House was chosen as the chapter name for its significance as the name of the crossroads settlement at the intersection of the old Winchester-Falmouth Road and the post road from Charlottesville to Alexandria. The court house of the newly formed County of Fauquier was located at this intersection in May 1759. This thriving settlement was located almost at the exact center of the county and kept its original name until 1810 when the town was incorporated to become Warrenton in honor of General Joseph Warren of Revolutionary War fame.
The Fauquier Court House Chapter, NSDAR, was organized on April 22, 1982 at St. James Episcopal Church, Warrenton. It was confirmed by the National Board of Management, NSDAR, on April 24, 1982 with a membership of twenty-five; and currently has 72 members. This is the first DAR chapter formed in Fauquier County, Virginia; and Mrs. Rebecca F. (Speelman) McMenimem was the Organizing Regent.
