Inspection Scoring
This is the exact score sheet that I will use to
determine whether or not you have built a true Internet Beacon. Well, not
quite -- my score sheet has little blanks where I can fill in the numbers.
Step 1: Building Permit
Sites must meet
all of the Internet Beacon Award eligibility
requirements as stated in the Building Permit
self-tests. Failure to meet these
requirements will end the review.
Step 2:
Foundation -- 30
points
Correct
spelling, punctuation, grammar (5 points)
Text overall appearance -- fonts, formatting,
etc. (5 points)
Ease of navigation (5 points)
Overall organization of site (5 points)
Overall color scheme of site, including
backgrounds (5 points)
First impression (5 points)
Step 3:
Construction -- 50 points
Material is
generally of a positive nature (10 points)
Material provides the viewer with valuable
resources (10 points)
Adequate amount of information -- at least 5
pages (6 points)
No obvious factual errors (4 points)
No obviously outdated material (4 points)
Writing is clear and communicates well (4
points)
No profanity on site (4 points)
Information on webmaster available (4 points)
Contact information easily available (4
points)
Step 4: Wiring
the Lamp and Adjusting the Lens -- 10 points
No more than
two broken external links (3 points)
No excessive loading time for any pages --
more
than 20 seconds at broadband speed (3 points)
Site is not browser-specific (2 points)
Site is not resolution-specific (2 points)
Step 5:
Interior Work -- 10 points
All graphics appear to have a purpose (4 points)
Acceptable use
of animated graphics -- no more than one per
page (3 points)
No graphics interfere with text
intelligibility (3 points)
Step 6:
Painting

two ad banners per page beyond what's required
by web space provider (5-point deduction)
