Sexuality Education

As of August 28th, 2007, Planned Parenthood was prohibited by law from conducting or supplying materials for sexuality education classes in Missouri public schools. In addition, Missouri schools may opt to teach abstinence-only classes. This new law creates a need in our community that this Fellowship is uniquely able to meet.

Starting in the Fall OF 2007, UUFJC sponsored a series of classes conducted by Ellen Baker, a Planned Parenthood educator. These classes are now being offered again.

Spring 2008 Class

Wednesday, April 29 - Sexuality Education for Teenagers (high school students,only - no parents), 7:00 p.m. First of four classes conducted by a Planned Parenthood educator. PUBLIC EVENT; tell your friends.

The main topics covered are anatomy, birth control, STIs (Sexually transmitted infections), and Healthy Decision Making. Each class will last about 90 minutes. the remainig classes will be held on May 7, 14, and 21.

Registration is required; a parent must sign the registration form authorizing their teenager's attendance. Enrollment is limited to 50. There is no charge for this class.

Please share this information with everyone you know who is concerned about what Jefferson City teenagers learn - and don't learn - in school.

Mother & Daughter Workshops

The Columbia Clinic of Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri would like to offer two Mother & Daughter workshops in the coming months. These workshops are designed to help mothers and daughters learn together about topics related to puberty, reproduction, and sexuality and to give them a solid base for communication about these issues.

Our Whole Lives classes for Teens (O.W.L.)

O.W.L. class for teens 9-12 grade will be offered Sundays, January through March 2008 at the UU Church in Columbia. Our Whole Lives is a class about relationships, communication, and sexuality, developed by UU educators. It is a safe and supportive atmosphere to learn about stuff that everyone wants to know. Mom and Dad, this is one class you don't want your kid to skip. We've had many teens from Jeff City in the class, as well as some from other congregations.
