My Latest Rant!

Here you will find my ravings concerning the film industry, actors, and theater owners. Mostly the greedy theater owners I think.

Today's rant: The copyright law mess.
It seems the only people protected by copyright laws are the businesses who make money from stealing, coercing, or buying for peanuts the intellectual property of the poor souls who have the creative genius to come up with ideas, music, or products. Ask any of the rock & roll stars of the 50's and 60's who owns their music. Only on rare occasion did the artists retain ownership. Where were the laws to protect them from these predators?
So now to us the consumer. Law suits in the wake of Napster abound, to protect us? No! To protect the same companies that have made me purchase the same music three to four times.
Once on vinyl
Once on eight track tape
Once on cassette tape
Once on CD
These greedy bastards, have gotten four payments from me because, through planned obsolescence, they have created new technology to resell old products. Now they are crying that piracy has hurt there bottom line. Bullshit! Their greed has hurt their bottom line.
The movie industry is the same. HDTV will force all of us to purchase new televisions, new movies, new recording devices. Have you seen any press on video recorders for HDTV? Why not? Because, they would like us not to have that technology, so once again they can make me purchase my favorite movies, three times!
Once on tape
Once on Laser disc
Once on DVD
What's next? Some new technology, to make me purchase a copy for my HDTV. The profits exist only because they keep reselling the same good songs and movies over and over again. The garbage they are creating today no one wants to buy or pay to see, so it is left to be viewed for free, or heard for free. How many copies of Doctor Detroit would you buy? However, you might view it for free on any movie channel or friend's tape.

Let your congressman know your displeasure with these business practices and show your displeasure by paying for good products not crap.
