The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle stars Rene Russo as Natasha Fatale, Jason Alexander as Boris Badenov, Randy Quaid as 'Cappy' von Trappment, Robert De Niro as Fearless Leader, June Foray the voice of Rocket J. Squirrel, Janeane Garofalo as Minnie Mogul/ Indiana State Trooper, Whoopi Goldberg as Judge, Keith Scott as the voice of Bullwinkle J. Moose/Narrator, John Goodman, David Alan Grier, Carl Reiner, and Jonathan Winters.
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle is a film where the characters created by Jay Ward come to life in the real world through the magic of television. Our heroes, are still cartoon characters who must save the world from those dastardly spies, Boris, Natasha, and Fearless Leader. They spawn a plot to have Fearless Leader become ruler of the world through hypnotic television.
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle has some good moments, however, overall it misses the mark. I am a huge fan of Rocky and Bullwinkle, I went to the first available showing. To my surprise, it was not as good as the cartoons I had watched. Robert De Niro is brilliant as Fearless Leader, Rene Russo is a great Natasha. The cameos and bit parts by most actors is fun. Jason Alexander as Boris Badenov gave a disappointing performance.
The makers of this film should have followed the serial presentation of the cartoon show. George of the Jungle did the right thing by following the rhythm and tempo of the cartoon show. That's what's missing in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle.
I give it 2 out of 5 stumps:
