Mission to Mars

Mission to Mars stars Gary Sinise as Jim McConnell, Don Cheadle as Luc Goddard, Connie Nielsen as Terri Blake, Jerry O'Connell as Phil Ohlmyer, Kim Delaney as Maggie McConnell, and Tim Robbins as Woody Blake.

Mission to Mars is a film that wasn't necessary, there are enough bad science fiction films to last a life time. In fact, this film had no science to complement the fiction. Too bad that MST3K no longer screens movies, this one was perfect to watch with your robot friends. This film had everything a 1950's sci-fi flick had, space ship, crew with female problems, meteor shower, and lots of martian sand storms. Of course those were left over footage from The Mummy. What was missing besides a good story, the kid. 1950's sci-fi flicks always had some kid going into space.

Actually this film is closer to a re-make of the 1959, The Angry Red Planet, minus the return to earth, flashback story telling. A mainstay for most science fiction. Instead we get a marooned on Mars rescue mission.

It seems that even in the movies NASA can't get anything to land on Mars without crashing!

I give it 1 out of 5 meteors:
