Fight Club stars Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden, Edward Norton as Narrator and Jack, Helena Bonham Carter as Marla Singer, Meat Loaf as Robert (Bob) Paulson, Jared Leto as Angel Face, Zach Grenier as Boss, Eion Bailey as Ricky.
Fight Club is a dark film made in the tradition of most gang films of the fifties. Most of the action takes place at night or in a run-down structure with leaking water. Fight Club starts out slowly with Jack explaining his insomnia. The lack of sleep starts to take its toll on Jack. He has daily words with his boss and has a general deterioration of his appearance. These daily bouts with his boss continue until he discovers support groups for horrendous diseases.
He starts to join these groups, one at a time. This for what ever reason allows him to sleep. His world seems to be coming together again until he sees Marla at all of his meetings. He knows she is a fake too. This leads him back into a depression and insomnia. They strike up a bargain and do not go to the same meetings. All is well until he meets Tyler Durden on an airplane. His world is about to change. His luggage is held up. He is late coming home only to find that his condo exploded and destroyed everything in side. He calls Tyler Durden to ask, to stay, with him. Here is where the plot thickens. He no longer needs the meetings as he and Tyler Durden fight to get the same relief the meetings give him. Others see the fight and Fight Club is created. The story takes a very surprising turn near the end as more and more people are recruited for Fight Club. Fight Clubs exist in most major cities across the country. I won't spoil the surprise if you are going to see it.
Fight Club should be named Ferris Bueller and Mr. Hyde. It's a film you will hate or like. I didn't get much out of it. Even the surprise twist did nothing for me but confuse the plot of the film. If there is one.
I give it 2 out of 5 bars of soap:
