Thomas Crown Affair

Thomas Crown Affair stars Pierce Brosnan as Thomas Crown, Rene Russo as Catherine Banning, Denis Leary as Michael McCann, Ben Gazzara as Andrew Wallace, Faye Dunaway as The Psychiatrist.

Thomas Crown Affair is a remake of the Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway film of the same name. As a remake it has a lot to stand up to, it is not as good , but different. Faye Dunaway is brought back as Thomas Crown's psychiatrist. A little twist.

Thomas Crown Affair is about a Donald Trump, who is bored with Acquisitions and replaces the rush with crime. He steals a 100 million dollar painting from a museum. Catherine Banning, an Insurance investigator, knows who did it, but needs proof. They start there interaction with dares for dates and later get involved. Each party still distrust that the other is only being romantic to foil the other.

Thomas Crown Affair takes awhile to develop. It starts as an action film then slows to a romantic interlude and ends with a very 007ish ending. What's missing in this version is the music. The original had the haunting Windmill of Your Mind in all the right places. It is not until near the end of the film that the song is introduced but on a harsher note. The focus is on the lead characters, the only other character who has any part is Denis Leary as the detective investigating the art theft. The film is OK if you haven't seen the original. It misses the mark set by the original film. It's worth a rental and a comparison.

I give it 3 out of 5 attache cases:
