BRIGADE MEMBERS HONOR GEN. SHERMAN AT CALVARY CEMETERY Several Brigade members joined the members of the William T. Sherman/Billy Yank Camp #65 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War to commemorate the birth and death of Gen. William T. Sherman at his gravesite in Calvary Cemetery in north St. Louis on February 24, 2002.
BRIGADE MEMBERS CELEBRATE WASHINGTON'S BIRTHDAY IN 1862 STYLE The Turner Ladies held a Washington's Birthday pot-luck social for Brigade members at the Affton White-Rodgers Community Center in south St. Louis County on February 23, 2002, patterned on an evening jubilee described in an 1862 St. Louis newspaper article.
TURNER BRIGADE RECRUITS AT JEFFERSON BARRACKS SHOW The Brigade recruiting table at the Early American Militaria Show and Swap meet at the Grant Shelter at Jefferson Barracks County Park on February 23, 2002, proved a very productive endeavor.
ANNUAL BRIGADE DINING OUT Sgt. Mike Hudson and the men of Company E, 1st Missouri Engineers, hosted the annual Brigade Dining Out on Saturday evening, January 12, 2002, at the Engineers' Club on Lindell Blvd. in St. Louis, Missouri.
BRIGADE MARCHES IN VETERANS' DAY PARADE THROUGH DOWNTOWN ST. LOUIS Members of the Turner Brigade marched through downtown St. Louis in the annual Veterans' Day parade November 10, 2001. Capt. John Lee led Company G, joined by members of the 6th Wisconsin, periodically halting them to fire a volley for the spectators. Cpl. Kevin Ryan towed one of Company K's Parrott rifles on a trailer, and members of Company M helped form the color guard of the Sherman Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
REENACTORS HIGHLIGHT OLD DEMAREE FAIR IN HIGH RIDGE, MISSOURI Brigade Members from several companies were among reenactors featured at the annual Old Demaree Fair in High Ridge, Missouri, October 6-7, 2001.
GEN. EWING REPULSES PRICE'S ARMY AT FORT DAVIDSON Turner Brigade members joined in the defense of Fort Davidson in the 137th Anniversary reenactment of the Battle of Pilot Knob, Missouri, September 22-23, 2001.
CONFEDERATES STRIKE AT NASON, ILLINOIS Members of Company M joined other Union forces in battling Confederate raiders at the "Nason Days" event September 15-16, 2001, at Nason, Illinois.
BRIGADE BATTLES REBELS AT ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI Brigade members from all companies were joined by other Federal forces in battling rebel forces at the annual reenactment at St. Charles, Missouri, September 8-9, 2001.
GENERAL HARNEY HONORED AT HIS HOME IN SULLIVAN, MISSOURI Members of Company M and Company G were featured at a living history demonstration honoring the 201th anniversary of the birth of Union Gen. William Harney at his home in Sullivan, Missouri, on August 25, 2001.
REBELS BATTLED IN THE STREETS OF KIMMSWICK, MISSOURI Brigade members from all companies were joined by other Union forces in fighting rebel troops through the streets of historic Kimmwick, Missouri, August 11-12, 2001.
BRIGADE BATTLES REBELS AND THE HEAT AT GLASGOW Brigade members from all companies joined other Union troops in fighting Confederates and intense August heat at the reenactment of the Battle of Glasgow in Glasgow, Missouri, on August 4-5, 2001.
BRIGADE MARCHES IN WASHINGTON TOWN & COUNTRY FAIR PARADE The Turner Brigade marched in the annual Washington, Missouri, Town & Country Fair parade July 29, 2001.
COMPTON HEIGHTS BAND PERFORMS 1812 OVERTURE WITH ARTILLERY ACCOMPANIMENT Three guns of Company M, manned by members from throughout the Brigade, once again participated in the annual patriotic-themed concerts presented by the Compton Heights Concert Band on July 1 and 2, 2001.
BRIGADE BOLSTERS UNION FORCES AT JACKSONVILLE Brigade members turned out in force for the the annual "Grierson Days" reenactment held June 23-24, 2001, in Jacksonville, Illinois. Company G fielded the largest Federal infantry company present, and Company M's three guns and Company K's three Parrotts joined two Illinois guns in the Union battery.
ARTILLERY SCHOOL TRAINS 76 CANNONEERS Thirty Turner Brigade members were joined by 46 other Union, Confederate, and War of 1812 cannoneers for an artillery safety school conducted by representatives of the National Civil War Artillery Association on June 9-10 at the Kohmueller House in Washington, Missouri. NCWAA instructors Capts. Ethan Barnett and Nelson Replogle of Michigan, assisted by Sons of Veterans Reserve Gen. Charles Corfman of Ohio, provided the latest information on artillery drill safety and procedures as recommended by the NCWAA. Seventeen members of Companies K and M also passed a rigorous qualification examination for the gunner position. Several Turner ladies provided a bountiful but modestly-priced lunch for participants on Saturday and Sunday.
BRIGADE MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONIES Turner Brigade members participated in Memorial Day ceremonies on May 28, 2001. Members of Co. M fired 3 guns in salute at the annual riverfront ceremony in Washington, Mo. Other Brigade members joined the Sons of Union Veterans in a ceremony at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis County, Mo.
SACRAMENTO IMPRESSES WITH SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY" Members of the Turner Brigade traveled to Sacramento, Kentucky, for their reenactment May 19-20, 2001. The event impressed all with its Southern hospitality.
REBELS DEFEATED AT PEA RIDGE IN KEOKUK REENACTMENT. The Turner Brigade returned once again to the annual reenactment of the Battle of Pea Ridge in Keokuk, Iowa, April 28-29, 2001, to give battle to Confederates of the Trans-Mississippi. Members of several companies and many of their ladies made the trip north for the battles and the other event activities.
BRIGADE ASSEMBLES FOR SPRING DRILL IN WASHINGTON The Brigade assembled for its annual Spring Drill April 7-8, 2001, at the Kohmueller House in Washington, Missouri. Over 60 Brigade members attended from the artillery, infantry, engineers, medical, and staff branches, plus many civilian members.
WASHINGTON SCHOOL DAY BRINGS LIVING HISTORY TO STUDENTS Brigade members once again brought Civil War history to life for Washington, Missouri, area schoolchildren at the annual Civil War Day held at the Kohmueller House on April 6, 2001. Over 150 4th and 5th graders from 6 schools were bused to the grounds of the historic homestead to participate in hands-on activities presented by Turner men and women.
BRIGADE MEMBERS HONOR GEN. SHERMAN AT CALVARY CEMETERY Members of The Turner Brigade joined with members of the William T. Sherman/Billy Yank Camp #65 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in the SUV's annual memorial service at Gen. Sherman's gravesite in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, on February 25, 2001.
TURNER BRIGADE RECRUITS AT JEFFERSON BARRACKS SHOW Members of the Turner Brigade manned a recruiting table at the Early American Militaria Swap Meet and Show held on February 24, 2001, in Jefferson Barracks County Park in south St. Louis County. Four new members were enlisted.
