BRIGADE ASSEMBLES FOR SPRING DRILL IN WASHINGTON
The Brigade assembled for its annual Spring Drill April 7-8, 2001, at the Kohmueller House in Washington, Missouri. Over 60 Brigade members attended from the artillery, infantry, engineers, medical, and staff branches, plus many civilian members, "a very good turnout", according to Brigade Adjutant Capt. Walt Larson. Joining the Turners for the weekend were members of the 6th Wisconsin, U.S.; 9th Missouri, C.S.A.; and 2nd Missouri State Guard. A goodly number of spectators toured the camps during the windy but unseasonably hot spring weekend and witnessed two "sham battles" and a lengthy court martial.

A good crowd turned out to view the camps and activities during the Spring Drill weekend.

Turner officers sit in judgment during a court martial of a group of soldiers who protested their spoiled rations.

During Saturday's "sham battle", infantry of the 17th Missouri and 6th Wisconsin form a line of battle behind their skirmish line to repel rebel troops attacking Co. K's artillery line.

As the rebels slowly withdraw, the Union troops advance in good order.

A volley drives the rebels into the woods.

Co. M opens fire on the advance from its position beyond the woods.

Quartermaster Lt. Wes Roberson provides color commentary to the spectators as Co. M changes front to face the attack.

After the "sham battle", spectators meet with soldiers in camp.
