There are now many news sources on the world wide web in addition to paper editions of newspapers and periodicals. For those who don't follow the news regularly or have never adopted a newspaper or periodical of choice, it is probably best to choose one or two through trial and error. In this area students can subscribe to paper editions of the Washington Post at very inexpensive rates, and this is one of the world's best newspapers. The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal are also readily available.

The single best English language news periodical is the Economist - it is expensive but worth the cost. It is also available in the library, as are the newspapers above and others. The best overall English language newspaper is the Financial Times -also expensive and available in the library.

Yahoo Full Coverage World News provides an excellent and comprehensive "clearing house" of news sources on a variety of topics. See also http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/ for a comprehensive listing of thousands of newspapers worldwide.

See also WORLD NEWSPAPERS (http://www.refdesk.com/paper.html)for a well-organized list of global news sources. In addition, the Guardian has a comprehensive World News Guide.

With the internet it is now possible to follow the news from multiple perspectives, especially if you can read another language or languages. Most countries also have English language editions of their major newspapers and periodicals. It can be a very enlightening experience to read about the same event from several perspectives.

Awareness of multiple perspectives and ideological bias will make you a more sophisticated reader. All news sources are biased in some way. The more you can become aware of this, the more truly informed you will be.
