My name is Jeremy
"Spike" Van Wert. This summer I am taking a journey
of a life time. I am crossing the United States on my bicycle.
This difficult trip will be made to benefit The
Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. I was a tenor
drummer for the A Corps in 1996, 1997, and 1998. This web page
will be a journal of my travels. Every day from June 10th to
July 31st 2001, I will update this page with pictures and new
stories about my travels across the United States. I will begin
in San Francisco Ca. and end up in Portsmouth NH. If you happen
to enjoy reading my website or get a kick out of a story, email me. I may not
get back to you immediately, because I am sure I won't have a
lot of time to write on my computer. Please write anyway, as
I am sure there will be times I could use some inspiration on
this six week journey.
In
memory of Art Valarde
Art Valarde joined SCV in 1998. His vibrant
and lovable spirit was warm and encouraging to all whom encountered
him. His dream of being a part of Santa Clara Vanguard was realized
when he made bottom bass drum in 1998. Though he was one of the
smallest members of the Drum line, he marched the largest drum
and loved every minute of being a part of the Corps. Tragically
his life was cut short on May 26th 1999 when a freak car accident
took him away from all of his friends. Art was a dear friend
to all of the Drum line members who marched with him, and many
whom did not. I have chosen to remember Art on my ride by yelling
his name every time I cross a state line. While I ride I will
remember Art, and all of the beloved friends I have made while
being a part of The Santa Clara Vanguard. Please visit the
website dedicated to his memory.
