Bob did it again! For the 21st year!
Congratulations are again in order to Bob Fraser, the Reno-Lake Tahoe
trip organizer. He did a great job as
usual, and the 30 participants would all agree.
Barbara Shaw and Donna Klotz didn’t ski; and Dick Cormier, Jay Emde, and
Carrie Sharp didn’t ski after they injured themselves on Monday. The Maddens and Hickmans came from the Hawaiian Islands to join us. Karen Gillmore, the Shaws’ daughter, resumed
skiing after a few years lapse, and Jean Graves skied again after her knee
replacement.
On Monday we went to
Northstar. The Sierras experienced
another storm on Sunday night, but it dissipated on Monday. It was a good day of skiing. Monday evening Bob arranged a fantastic seafood and prime
rib buffet at the Nugget Hotel in Sparks. At that time he gave us tickets for the
Wednesday night show and the Thursday night buffet.
Many of us went back to
Northstar on Tuesday because of high winds other places. Mt. Rose (2 for 1 Tuesday) was not a good choice nor was Squaw Valley.
Sharon Arneson, Marilyn Kern, Jan Hudson, Diana Mason, Art Hahn, Jack
Eng, Jeff Britt, and Charles Madden went to Sugar Bowl.
Homewood was the resort of
choice on Wednesday, although our car traveled to Alpine Meadows. Conditions were good every place—the best ski
day of the week. That evening we enjoyed
“Forbidden Broadway,” a hilarious Broadway show at our hotel, the El Dorado.
On Thursday we were on our
way to Sugar Bowl, but Jim Remy, our driver, diverted to Northstar because of
high winds. We had to quit skiing early
or get blown off the mountain. Thursday
evening we all enjoyed the dinner buffet at the El Dorado.
We went back to Sugar Bowl on
Friday. It had snowed another 8-12
inches on Thursday night, but the wind had subsided. Dick Cormier was buying drinks at the Roxy
Piano Bar on Friday night as a farewell gesture.
Most of us took Alaska
Airlines home to Sea-Tac except Doris Peasley, who went home to Texas; the
Maddens and Hickmans, who went back to the Islands; and Kathy Hegtvedt, a
flight attendant for Southwest.
Thanks, Bob, for a great
trip!
