MT TAHOMA WEEKEND
ROOM WITH A VIEW and what a view of Mt Rainier
A fun and enthusiastic group met Mike Dunn in Ashford for
our trek up the mountain to our destination. The trail maintenance
began earlier than we expected and was actually
“Road Maintenance” as a rock slide had to be moved before we could
continue to
our lodging. After clearing the road we
continued up the hill and had a beautiful view of Mt Rainier at dusk
bathed in
pink floating on white frothy clouds. And during the two days we were
there we saw Mt Rainier from many
angles
as well as Mt St Helens, Mt Adams and a peek at Mt Hood in Oregon.
We stayed in a comfortable cabin called Snow Bowl with a
sleeping loft, bunks and 2 separate sleeping areas for the ski
patrol. The lighting, heat and cooking facilities
were gas so we had most of the comforts of home.
Friday night we all brought our favorite variety of Papa
Murphys Pizza and our favorite beverage to go with it so we certainly
did not
starve. Saturday after breakfast and more “WOW” looking at the
mountains and blue sky we were off on a trek and maintenance trip to
the next
hut in the system “The Yurt’ which is another unique lodging
opportunity for
members of the trail system. Lots of
ups and downs and we arrived in time for lunch and a tour of the
building.
Saturday night we potlucked our dinner and again had more
food than we could eat and then played a game that Mary brought called
IF
answering hypothetical questions with funny answers.
Sunday morning and another WOW at the mountains we were
off
for a tour of the third lodging facility called high hut and it is
really high
with views of the whole valley and all of the mountains mentioned.
Thanks to Mike for hosting this weekend and giving us a
chance to see an area of Washington
that was new to us.

how to have use of it - contact Mike Dunn. Article and Photos by Carol Howard
