Skihawks Christmas Dinner/Dance  05
It was a perfect night for a Christmas party. It had snowed the previous Thursday and there was still snow on the ground, but the roads were bare. It was a cold, starlit night, just perfect for gathering around the roaring fireplace, drinking some Christmas cheer with friends. The Fort Lewis Golf Club had been decorated with Christmas ornaments, wreaths and a Christmas tree. Red poinsettias decorated every dining table. The women were stunning and the men were well-groomed in their finest attire.
There was only one small problem and that, unfortunately, was that the heat for the dining area was not working. For the ladies in their shear spagetti-strap gowns, it was a bit nippy. I would have to say that goose bumps were the most common accessory of the evening. My date kept her coat on through the dinner. I fantasied that perhaps she, in a rush to get to the party, had forgotten to put a dress on and had nothing on under the coat. Then the music started and we all got out on the dance floor to get warm. After she warmed up a bit, she took her coat off and my fantasy was dashed.
But I digress. We really did have a great time seeing old friends and making plans for the upcoming ski season. Nancy James, our treasurer, did a great job of greeting the new arrivals and making everyone feel comfortable. While most of us gathered near the fireplace, Mike Miner, Mike Mclean, Sandi Braget and others tried to figure out the problem with the thermostat. Since there was heat in the bathrooms, they were even more popular than usual and Bill Power spent a lot of time in there (just kidding, Bill).
There were still a lot of people dancing the night away when the disc jockey announced it was time for the last dance. Not wanting to call it a night just yet, several people including Tom Shaw, Sandy Papachek, and Sandee Miner grabbed the microphone and were lip-sincing to the music.
I am sure that we all had a good time because one lady went home with two purses, (how does THAT happen?), leaving Peggy Young with no keys to get in her house. Everyone involved got a big HO HO HO out of that one.
It was very enjoyable seeing everyone, especially Jim and Pat Remy, looking so elegant at our biggest and most formal dance of the year.           Guy Moyer
