So
I'm finally joining the webolution. Mostly because all of our friends are
sick and tired of us talking about our dogs and this way both kids get
their own pages and we can subject many more people to innumerable pictures
and stories. Hah, Subvert the dominant paradigm.
This
year's big work issue was the Cassini space probe which is currently on
its way to Saturn (the planet not the car manufacturer). A piece of hardware
I installed on the spacecraft successfully worked. We will have to wait
until the end of 1998 to see if it works again. The picture shows them
testing the hardware I made. A special prize if you can guess which geek
in the bunny suit is me.
As usual, play has been more fun than work. In February, Karen
Capaldi came through town and not only crashed on my extra bed, but
she also played a house concert in my living room. We had guests from the
bay area join us to enjoy her show. Unfortunately, on the roadtrip down,
there was a mishap on directions. So our next visitors should definitely
check yahoo for a good
map and set of directions. The person in the photo with me is Alisha,
who drove with Karen and Julie Meloni on their way from the Bay Area. ![[lori & leesh]](alisha_lori.jpg)
This year's crazy California-Ani-fest was actually abbreviated. Essentially, Kat and I only did a few road trips (Bay Area, San Diego, Las Vegas) this fall to catch her on the California/Nevada leg of her tour. The Halloween Berkeley show was particularly memorable, especially for our pre-show get-together at Jupiter (the bar not the planet). In the midst of Halloween costume angst, Kat suggested, "Why not go as our social circle's most recognizable figure, John Miller?" So Alisha, Kat and I decided to give it a try. We kept our fingers crossed that he wouldn't be offended. As the photos show, he actually found it quite funny.
So 1998 should be totally different and cool. It will be chock-full of trying to finish up our 1997 tape trades and paying off debt. But there is undoubtedly a few cool concerts out there, with our names all over it.
Speaking of people to see in concert, everyone in SoCal should check out Wendy Bucklew, and we aren't just saying that because she is a friend.
This piece of fluff was created using a book and the help of lots of friends....
