The web is a terrific community! Here are a few places I hang out...

  • Flyfishing the State of Jefferson is where I belong... even though Southern California is where I am most of the time...
  • Cal Trout California Trout's Homepage. Find out about the state of the State's fish!
  • Wild Fishing in Scotland - Where so much history and love of our sport lies... a great site!
  • Great Western Rod Makers Gathering The annual gathering of the west coast's bamboo rod makers, restorers, and those who simply appreciate a fine split bamboo fly rod. Hosted this year at Chuck Irvine's rod shop and home, the west coast's premiere event. Attendance is growing annually and early registration is ALWAYS recommended! DO NOT miss this event!
  • Rodmakers The one site where the bulk of the worlds knowlege of bamboo rod making is stored. ( I think )
  • Over my Waders Reed Curry's great site loaded with info and articles.
  • David Roberts Rogue River Guide Service and Fly Tying David Roberts Guide Service will float you down his home waters of the Rogue River in beautiful Oregon. David's trips are consistantly productive outings landing his clients trout and steelhead. His knowlege of the waters he fishes almost daily and having the right fly and techniques, will afford you a memorable trip, if not the trip of a lifetime!
  • The Thomas Penrose Site A great site to find the how-to's of building the tools you'll need if you want to try and build your own.
  • Denver Dave's Vintage Bamboo Fly Rods Specializing In Fine Vintage Bamboo Fly Rods, Buy * Sell * Trade.
This fellow from Denver, CO can get you most any old rod you might be looking for.
  • Denver Dave Built ~ David S. Collyer ~ Maker Fine Custom Handmade Split Cane Fly Rods. A lot of folks have done business with Dave in the past and are not aware that he is a fine rodmaker. Some of us only think of him when we are looking for a vintage bamboo rod. A look at his rods might make you think twice before buying that older rod.
  • Todd Talsma's Tips Todd has taken on the task of compiling 'tips' sent to the Rodmakers Page and is in the process of listing by skill level, tips for building your own Bamboo Fly Rod. Todd is also a great web page builder.
  • Tony Miller Tony is with out a doubt, one of the funniest guys you could hope to meet! Add to that he is a very talented maker and he has a deadly, successful combination! Check out the bamboo ratan grips on his rods.
  • Andy Royer, The Bamboo Broker One of the best sources of the proper bamboo you will need to construct a quality split bamboo fly rod. Andy is located on the west coast, and ships his bamboo world wide. A gentleman and a pleasure to do business with!

There are stories in his book that we can all relate to.
  • Carl Chapell's Hand Carved Trout Nets Carl hand carves and hand paints fine trout nets. His carved and painted handles depict various species of trout so realistically you'll feel like hanging his art on your wall. BUT DON'T! These nets are made to be used! You will find the pricing for these nets very reasonable when you consider the prices of normal trout nets.

There are many more, I'm sure... If you have one you like, share it with me!
