Why Fish Bamboo? Probably the one of the best questions you could ask!
Fishing bamboo for me was somewhat of an evolution. I first started fly fishing
when composite rods began to make an appearance on the scene. I was told that in order to learn to cast well, I HAD to have
a 7 weight, nine foot Boron rod. I bought that rod and tried to learn to cast. What a joke! ( Er ... I still have that rod!
) That rod wouldn't load a 7 wieght line until you had at least 50 feet of line out the tip! Stiff wasn't the word for that
rod. Next I bought a famous makers GRAPHITE rod. It was better, but the rod was hard to cast to fish that were close in. Like
say 30 feet away! You needed 40 feet of line to load that rod, not to mention the 12 feet of leader and tippet! That makes
it pretty hard to cast to a fish 20 feet away! So, I bought another rod by a different maker. This rod was slower and softer
and suddenly I was able to control a cast about 25 feet away and more fish started coming to the net.

Then I fished a bamboo rod Suddenly, the ability to land a fly, deliclately, inches from his head and only 10 or 12 feet away, was like
the heavens opening up and dumping mana on my head! Now those of you who fish bamboo, know what I mean. I'm not trying
to preach to the choir, but to those who don't know this, it can be a hard, expensive lesson to learn! In my humble opinion,
there is no finer material to construct a fly rod from than genuine Tonkin Bamboo.
