Not familiar with what a WebRing is?
Please first visit: http://www.webring.org

The taxi WebRing is bringing taxi sites around the world
a little closer. It is a great way to increase traffic to
your site. The only requirement required to participate
in the taxi WebRing is that you have a taxi related website.
While we hope this WebRing will help bring taxi drivers
worldwide closer to both their customers and their fellow
taxi drivers there is no agenda nor hidden ulterior motive
behind the WebRing. All rumors of a revolutionary, suicidal,
terrorist organization are lies spread by our detractors.
Sure, thousands of taxis working in sync in all of the major
cities worldwide would be a force to be reckoned with, but we
assure you, we are here only to unite taxi related websites.
It is not expected that the participants will necessarily
agree on anything at all. There is no political, economic,
or social movement behind the WebRing. To be effective it
must remain impartial and above even the hint of improprieties.

A WebRing is simply a means by which a surfer can look at
many websites related to one subject, in this case, taxicabs.
You will find a working Hacks Association WebRing at the
bottom of the The Taximan of San Jose.

It all begins with putting the actual WebRing HTML code on
your page. It is very easy and we will be glad to help you.
Boldly driving where no taxi has driven before, this
little snippet of HTML code multiplies itself at an
ever increasing pace, mutating and getting stronger
and ever cooler as time goes on. Its primary mission:
To unite taxi drivers and persons with a taxi interest
worldwide. Also, as a means of bringing the customer and
the service providers closer together. Improving all the
time, it now contains a link to translate pages into
different languages and also a link to allow the visitor
to Netmind the page and receive an e-mail notification when
the page is updated. Associate sites are welcome and, in fact,
encouraged to update and modify the code and send the results
here for distribution. There are only a few protocols and some
general universal beliefs we mostly agree on which you should
become familiar with before deciding to join. There is strength
in numbers and true progress is most often made at the furthest
nodes. Most of the improvements and successful mutations of the
WebRing have come from associate sites worldwide. We are always
looking for new talent and, of course, participation is open to all.
Are you ready to add your taxi website to the ring?

On this WebRing we all mostly agree that.....

A Professional Taxi Driver is.....

A professional taxi driver is a well-groomed person with the patience of a
saint and is able to maintain composure in even the toughest and most
stressful of situations. He or she has the patience of Ghandi. While perhaps
enjoying the most relaxed dress code of any profession the professional
taxi driver always looks good even at the end of a 12 or 14 hour shift.

A skilled person handler, the professional taxi driver is able to deal
with whatever state of mind the passenger has when they enter and is
able to make sure that when they leave the taxi they are almost always
smiling. A good driver will leave their customer feeling their ride
was the highlight of their day.

A professional cab driver has an in-depth knowledge of the area he or she
services. Not just the streets, but also its points of interest, its
nightlife, its history, etc. This does not mean that the driver is
expected to know every single street(though they often do) but rather
that they be knowledgeable about the area in general and able to
assist passengers with their destination choice if necessary.

A professional taxi driver is genuinely concerned about serving his/her
passengers and tries to treat them all with respect and courtesy. A
good driver will try to learn their customer's name and make them
feel special. The customer will leave the taxi having enjoyed a
well delivered, personal experience and should learn and remember
the driver's name. Other times, the experience will be so fluid
that the car seems to drive itself and the driver is not even noticed.

A professional cab driver is a good listener who has a special sense of
what level of conversation the customer expects. He/she knows which
passengers want to talk and which ones just want to be left alone. He/she
never tries to force conversation upon an unwilling passenger.

A professional taxi driver leaves his/her problems at home and doesn't
unburden him/herself upon their passengers. A customer can unburden
themselves with the knowledge that the driver will always respect
their privacy and confidentially. It is much like the trust and
openness usually reserved for priests and lawyers.

A professional cab driver maintains a clean vehicle at all times,
even in bad weather. The windows are clean, the carpets spotless,
and the interior polished. The whitewalls are white and the tires
glistening. It always smells nice and fresh inside and a woman
in a white dress feels comfortable getting into the car. And of
course, the heat and air conditioning always work.

A professional taxi driver always maintains a safe and solid car.
The tires have tread, all lights work, the horn works, and the
engine and transmission are reliable. A good car is one that
the customer feels safe putting their grandmother in. A professional
driver always has a spare tire and other emergency equipment on
hand and knows enough about automobiles to handle any potential
road situation. The professional driver is one who feels responsible
for the safety of his passengers and does whatever is necessary
to make sure that they get to their destination safely.

And while a professional cab driver may drive a bit fast sometimes, it is
always in a safe and skilled manner. The professional taxi driver will
always take care to deliver their customers briskly and safely and
never, ever, absolutely never hits anything. Nor does the professional
driver allow any other vehicle to cause a collision.

A professional taxi driver will always try to choose the best route
between point A and point B. They will consider such factors as
traffic, distance, and time and deliver their customers in the
most economical and efficient manner possible. If a customer has
a preference for the route the professional cab driver will ALWAYS
take that route.

A professional taxi driver is a unpaid service provider for their
communities in many ways. They help stranded motorists, report
fires, report crimes and suspicious activities, serve as tourist
guides, give directions, and do many other nice things.

A professional taxi driver is one that truly loves to drive. Speed
and convenience is what we live for. The freedom of the road is
as vital as blood and oxygen to a healthy existence.

The HTML CODE

You can find several different styles of WebRing code you
can use on the WebRing.Org website and you are welcome to
use any style you wish as long as it is functional. One style,
the WebRing in table format, is shown below. The only thing left
to do, and VERY IMPORTANT, is do a little search and replace and
insert your own SITE ID number. This number is e-mailed to you
when you sign up. That, and a few finishing touches, and you are done.

Just look at the source code for THIS
page and cut out THIS table:

This is a SKELETAL CODE ONLY. Certain links will
not work. You must edit the code, download the
images, and put it on your server to make it work.
It is here to make it easy for you to replicate the
Taxi WebRing on your page. You *MUST* edit the HTML code,
otherwise the webring won't work and your site will
not be added until you correct the code on your page.

DON'T FORGET TO FINISH THE JOB!!!!
Inserting your own Site ID is the next step. Just Search and Replace.
You will also want to insert your own name and e-mail in the table.
Again, a little search and replace should do the trick.

After that, make sure you copy and save the images so you can place
them on your own server. Also, be sure and put your web page address
in the translate link. These are the only necessary modifications.
Your Taxi WebRing should now work.

MOST COMMON TROUBLES
Probably the most common problem is webmasters that fail to
modify the translate link. You will find my web page address
in the link when you originally download it. You must search
through and find it and replace it with your own particular
web page address. There are comments in the coding to indicate
what has to be done.

Beyond this, some webmasters fail to copy the images to their own
server. Others let a stray semi-colon mess up a link. Still others
mangle the code so badly the webring is barely recognizable. Some
websites have huge images which make the website load too slow. It is
important that only fully functional websites are activated on the
webring. A web surfer must be able to quickly and easily trip from
site to site. You will be given time to correct any problems
before your site is removed from the queue. Help is available.

Webmasters who are using HTML editors like Netscape Composer, Hotdog
or some other editor and do not have alot of HTML experience may
find the task of adding the webring slightly difficult. If you
want, e-mail your webpage address to me and request a custom
refined webring code and code tailored to your website will
be e-mailed to you.

Beyond this, feel free to modify the HTML code in any way you see fit.
Send your best new versions of the WebRing here for distribution.

Protocols And
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

I filled out the form but it didn't seem to take. It
said it 'timed out' or some other error.

WebRing.Org is sometimes very busy. Try again and if you still
have trouble, try again at a later time. If you continue to
have trouble, e-mail us. While WebRing.Org can sometimes be
slow, if you have trouble connecting at all you may want to
consider switching to a better ISP.

Can I join the WebRing and not include the HTML
code(the Taxi WebRing) on my page?

NO, you must have the WebRing on your taxi site to be included.
All WebRing sites must have a working WebRing, in some form,
on their taxi page.

Can I put it on a page that instantly refreshes?
No, the Taxi WebRing surfer must land on a stable page
that includes the Taxi WebRing.

Do I have to use the HTML code here?
No, other code styles can be found on the WebRing.Org site. All
that matters is that the WebRing works. You can modify it any
way you like as long as it is fully functional.

I submitted my site but haven't added the HTML code to
my page yet. Will I be included in the WebRing?

No, your site will not become active on the WebRing until
you have a functional WebRing on your page. Dead links
ruin a WebRing. Send us a e-mail if you add the WebRing
and do not find yourself shortly afterwards added to the WebRing.

Can I put the WebRing code on a different page from
my main page like my links or a WebRing page?

You are strongly encouraged to put the WebRing on the main
page of your taxi site at the bottom of the page. If you
insist on putting it on a different page just make sure
there is a link which leads to the main page of your taxi
related site and be aware that many WebRing surfers will
many times simply surf to the next site on the WebRing when
they arrive at a WebRing or links page. Find a better page
within your site to add it to, like maybe a booking or
dispatching page.

Can I put the WebRing on a page with JAVA and such?
No, JAVA is not allowed on the page you add the WebRing to.
JAVA for many machines takes too long to load. Find another page
on your website that does not have JAVA and put the WebRing there.
Javascript and HTML 4.0+ use is encouraged.

Can I add the WebRing to my really huge page?
No, sorry, but we have to keep the WebRing rolling at a certain
speed and pages that take too long to load will have to be
excluded. You are encouraged to trim your page down by splitting
it into several pages and then you will have room for the WebRing.

Can I modify the webring to open new windows?
It is bad form to use the target=_blank tag to
make the WebRing open new windows. If every site did
this the WebRing surfer would be quickly overwhelmed
with numerous new browser windows.

Can I change the graphics used or the style?
Yes, you are encouraged to help modify/mutate the HTML code
and graphics to make it the best it can be. The WebRing must
be kept functional and the graphic on the left should not be
removed but beyond that, anything goes. Send your suggestions
and modifications in and we will put the best ones on this page.

Can I put the WebRing on multiple pages?
Yes, it is possible to have the WebRing on many pages
within your site but remember that you can only have
one entry per taxi site on the WebRing.

How long after I join will I be left in the queue?
After you fill out the form to join the taxi webring you are added
to the queue until your site is inspected for a fully functional
webring and it is activated on the webring. Sites sometimes sit
in the queue for up to a month. If dropped, sites are welcome to rejoin.

Will my e-mail be used for any nefarious purpose?
No, your e-mail will never be given by me to anyone for
any reason. Your privacy is highly respected here however
you should realize that this WebRing is seeking fame and
fortune and will never attempt to remain obscure. As a
result, joining this WebRing will only make you more
famous. I will never spam you and only use your e-mail
to keep you updated on Taxi WebRing matters and maybe
send you a Christmas greeting. That said,
please realize that the only reason I created and maintain
this WebRing is my love of Taxi Driving and, as explained
above, I feel it is very important for the WebRing to remain
focused on a single purpose and neutral beyond reproach.
