Who is this guy and why do I want to hire him?

Rob's Bio

Rob Tobin is a screenwriter, script doctor, writing coach, lecturer, author of "How to Write High Structure, High Concept Movies," and has written and sold both feature film scripts and sitcoms.

One of Rob's scripts made the semi-finals of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's 2004 Project Greenlight (and was then optioned) and another of Rob's recently written scripts was selected a winner of the prestigious 2004 Telluride Indiefest.

Rob rewrote "Across the Red Line," a sports drama for the Cannell Studios; wrote the treatment for "Guard of Honor," (from the best-selling novel) for Midnight Soldiers; wrote the treatment for "The A-Team" for Cannell; and the sitcom pilot "Time for Joy" for Riviera Entertainment.

Rob is a former VP of Writers Boot Camp, has done workshops and book signings at major screenwriting conferences including the Screenwriting Expo, Slamdance, and Moondance. As a story analyst, he read more than 5,000 screenplays for Goldwyn, Spelling, Interscope, TriStar, TriMark and HBO,
among others. He also helped establish a feature film department for Stephen J. Cannell ("The A-Team," "Hunter," "The Commish").

"ON THE DL"
Semi-finalist in 2004 Project Greenlight. A powerful and touchingly comical dramedy in which a dyslexic teenaged boy with a tough-guy attitude joins a girls' softball team only to discover that the girls are tougher than he is, that it's okay to ask for help, and that thereis crying in softball. (under option until May 1, 2005)

CHASING STEVEN SPIELBERG
Winner, Telluride Indiefest. When four major studios bet a billion dollars on a script no-one has actually read, a failed screenwriter is asked to save Hollywood... and he's not sure he should.

THE SERVER
Quarter Finalist, 2004 American Screenwriting Competition. A roller-blading Gen-X process server is framed for
murder and must use his Xtreme skills to find the real killer: a terrorist with a nuclear bomb and a ticket to Disneyland.

BACK TO THE GARDEN
Quarter Finalist, 2004 American Screenwriting Competition. "City of Angels" meets "ET" and "Raiders of the Lost
Arc" as a jaded archeologist discovers the Garden of Eden and the perfectly preserved bodies of Adam and Eve, who he accidentally revives. While Adam falls for the biggest apple of all, New York, and becomes a hedonistic celebrity, the archeologist falls in love with Eve, only to discover that the fate of Mankind depends on him defeating Satan,
reuniting Eve with Adam, and getting the Original Couple to lead us all back to the Garden.

TRUTHIES
"Liar, Liar" goes to Washington. A political comedy in which the American President is accidentally infected with a virus that forces him to tell the truth--and he's contagious! .

JUST IMAGINE
'Roger Rabbit' meets "The Lord of the Rings" in this magical, action-filled story of a reclusive wood carver who must bring his carvings to life to do battle with wacky but deadly demons intent on conquering the world.

THE STATUE MOVES
A drama about the tragic consequences of steroid use. A world-class athlete attempting a comeback alienates his new lover when she discovers him using steroids, the drug
that killed her athlete-brother.

PLAINS, TWAINS and HORSIES
A broad comedy in which a Japanese-Irish-Apache warrior in the Old West seeks revenge for the murder of his parents by a land baron. The hero must come to terms with his mixed racial heritage as well as crazed postal employees, a horny transvestite gunfighter and a Chinese wise man with chopsticks up his nose. "Blazing Saddles," but not so serious.

SWEETHEART
A newly divorced man seeks out the high school sweetheart he has not seen in twenty years and ends up finding her, her husband and the mobster who wants to kill them all.

IPO
Dramedy about two teens, their baby sister and their recently deceased mother who grants the baby the power to predict the stock market, but only if the kids use their winnings to help others.

CLANCY
SOLD. A police dog who wrongly believes he was responsible for his human partner's death, flees into the mountains surrounding Los Angeles, where he discovers that he is the only one who can help a Vietnam vet save an animal shelter from a greedy land developer.

O'Reilly and Fitz (sitcom pilot)
A struggling young Irish-American filmmaker, his greeting-card-writing wife and their infant daughter struggle in modern-day New York to make a living, a family and a life.
