I
recently received an e-mail from Audrey Kimura at Benten/Sister
Records to inform me that Petty Booka are coming to the USA (west coast) for
a mini tour. She also mentioned that her label is having a Holiday
Greeting Sale (Nov.24~Jan.25) and CD
Baby was now stocking some of her bands.
A
couple of days later I received the dates again plus some links to promotional
material from the promoter in San Francisco. Wow, I feel like a behind the scenes
super star! Maybe I should try to get more Japanese bands to come to Boston. It
seems like this is the only way I'll ever see them play, besides moving to Osaka.
I took this from the press release:
Petty
Booka is the popular Tokyo ukulele female duo that has rocked the South By Southwest
music festival in Austin, Texas three years running. After a decade of popularity
in Japan, the girls have both their first-ever USA release, "Let’s Talk Dirty
In Hawaiian" (Weed Records), and also a fine Christmas release "Christmas Everywhere"
(Weed Records) in stores everywhere. Their holiday release is quickly getting
a buzz from airplay on Dr. Demento, the Disney Radio Network and many indie and
college stations.

Hi
all, long time no update! I have been busy with the end of summer fun, learning
a new menu at work, and covering for coworkers. I was poking around the net and
landed at the John
Peel Radio Show. To my surprise I saw that Polysics
are playing a few songs on his program October 12th, tune in then to
hear some live versions of their songs. They are still touring the U.K. and Ireland,
so check their tour diaries
from 9/21 and 9/22 to see how it is going.

Hello
again, my dad sent me a link to Wolf
Moon Press Journal that has photos from this years Maine
International Film Festival. You can see a shot of the disassembled fire organ
(it sounded pretty fierce on my answering machine) from the film Nothing
Like Dreaming.
July
22, 2004
This
update is dedicated to my sister Serena, who was this year's venue manager of
the Maine International Film Festival.
We saw Dead And Breakfast,
a zombie horror comedy that includes David
Carradine, his niece Ever
Carradine, Anthony
Perkins' son Osgood,
and Zachariah,
the singing narrator. You can here some of the songs from the film too. Follow
the bouncing head and sing along! "Johnnie don't touch that box, like a girl under
eighteen if you know what I mean, Johnnie don't touch that box." Even my stepmother,
who hates horror flicks, sat through the whole thing and had a blast! If that's
not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is.
I'm
not sure if Dead And Breakfast is being distributed to theaters because it was
originally made for direct to video. I think it has only played at film festivals
so far. I highly recommend this movie especially if you are a fan of Evil
Dead 2 or Dawn
of the Dead.

Hi
all, between visiting family in Maine, computer problems, and work, I haven't
posted in a while. So for that reason, I added a way to amuse your self in my
absence.
The
HALCALI site
has a game where you drop pom poms into leaping cheerleader's hands. Also, I recommend
clicking above the game button for the cheerleader clock, or just watching/listening
to the new single, well worth the price of admission. Check out past themes of
the HALCALI site for different games, such as the
jigsaw puzzle. Happy Hunting!

When
I tell people that I listen to Japanese punk/rock I usually get two questions;
"How do you hear about these bands?" and "Where can I listen to them?"
I could only answer the first one with "Word of mouth from friends and poking
around the web." But that was before I had my web site and I could point
directly to indiesmusic.com.
Quick
tip, click on the Windows Media text above the track listings and all clips shown
will play in order. Big thanks to Mr.
Oni for the "word of mouth".
