The
Autobiography of George Muller
Join George
Muller on his journey from a life of sin and rebellion to
his glorious conversion. Share his struggles and triumphs
as he establishes orphan homes to care for thousands of
English children, depending entirely upon God's
miraculous response to his vibrant faith.
Some quotes from
George Muller:
"The
beginning of anxiety is the end of faith; and the
beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety."
"Why should we
limit either the goodness or the power of God by our
own knowledge of what we call the laws of
nature?"
"I was, for the
first time in my life, able fully and unreservedly to
give up myself to God. At this time I began truly to
enjoy the peace of God which passeth all
understanding."
"I saw more
clearly than ever that the first great and primary
business to which I ought to attend every day was to
have my soul happy in the Lord....I saw that the most
important thing I had to do was to give myself to the
reading of the Word of God, and to meditation on it,
that thus my heart might be comforted, encouraged,
warned, reproved, instructed; and that thus, by means
of the Word of God, whilst meditating on it, my heart
might be brought into communion with the
Lord."
"The first thing
the child of God has to do morning by morning is to
obtain food for his inner man."

Hudson
Taylor's Spiritual Secret, by
Dr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor
Hudson Taylor
was truly God's chosen servant. From his early life in
England, through the founding of the China Inland
Mission, to reaching millions of Chinese, his life of
faith gives glorious testimony to God. His spiritual
secret could change your
life.
A recent reader said, "This is an excellent book! Hudson
Taylor's journey of seeking after God is an inspiration
to anyone who longs to do the same....The secrets that he
discovered along the way are like a breath of fresh air
to the souls that long to see more of Jesus in their
lives."
Some
quotes from Hudson Taylor:
"Unspeakable
joy all day long and every day was my happy
experience. God, even my God, was a living bright
reality, and all I had to do was joyful
service."
"It
was in blessed reality 'Christ liveth in me.' And how
great the difference! -- instead of bondage, liberty;
instead of failure, quiet victories within; instead of
fear and weakness, a restful sense of sufficiency in
Another."
"The
sweetest part, if one may speak of one part being
sweeter than another, is the rest which full
identification with Christ brings. I am no longer
anxious about anything."
"Oh,
it is joy to feel Jesus living in you...to find your
heart all taken up by Him...He is our life, our
strength, our salvation."

Shadow
of the Almighty,
by Elisabeth Elliot
The
best-selling account of the martyrdom of Jim Elliot and
four other missionaries at the hands of the Auca Indians
in Ecuador.
This book will stir your soul. A recent reader
said, "this book really gives a clear picture of a man
whose life was lived fully to glorify God. It will really
challenge you in your faith. This is one of the few books
I have that I'll read over and over again!" Another
reader wrote, "the way it is written and what is written
has encouraged me so much; to have a heart after God is
the most important issue in our lives."
Some
quotes from Jim Elliot:
"He
is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what
he cannot lose."
"Wherever
you are, be all there. Live to the hilt every
situation you believe to be the will of
God."

A
Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy
Carmichael,
by Elisabeth Elliot
A life
willingly laid down in India continues to bear fruit. Amy
Carmichael has been a spiritual mother to many more than
the children she rescued from temple prostitution in
India at the turn of the 19th century. Her influence
extends much farther beyond her geographical location and
lifetime. She is truly an inspiration for our times.
Amy's life is described from childhood, through the
active mission years, and on into the last 20 years she
spent as an invalid before her death. It is flesh and
blood we see through it all; not some mystical saint who
has achieved great spiritual heights unobtainable to the
rest of us. We are allowed glimpses of her struggles,
fears, doubts, failures, and blind spots as well as her
triumphs. Amy saw "missions as a chance to die" to
oneself so that Christ might be revealed.
Some quotes from
Amy Carmichael:
"If I can
easily discuss the shortcomings and the sins of any;
if I can speak in a casual way even of a child's
misdoings, then I know nothing of Calvary
love."
"If I say, yes I
forgive, but I cannot forget as though the God who
twice a day washed all the sands on all the shores of
all the world could not wash such memories from my
mind, then I know nothing of Calvary love. If the
living God who made the tide and washes the shores
daily cannot wash away from my mind the caustic
remarks, the ugliness, the wrongs in someone else,
then I haven't even entered into Calvary
love."
"If souls can
suffer alongside, and I hardly know it -- then I know
nothing of Calvary love."
"You can give
without loving, but you cannot love without
giving."
