Since I can remember, I have always drawn and painted. But, I never knew any professional artists that looked like me. When
I consciously knew that I wanted to be an artist, I committed myself to exploring the African Diaspora experience in its various
incarnations. I work primarily in the figurative genre, inspired by the variety of african influenced cultures, both at home
and world-wide; continuing the legacy of vibrant works created by black people. Being a small part of this continuum in
the spirit of Charles White, John Biggers, Elizabeth Catlett, Alan Crite, John Wilson, Richard Yarde, and Augusta Savage,
just to name a few, is a privilege indeed.
I am inspired by all who came before me and challenged and encouraged by my peers. I hope that I can inspire any who
will come after me. We must tell our own story in our own way.
