Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Place: Old Sam's Pond, Pt. Pleasant, NJ, USA
Date: Winter 1987
Equipment: Nikon 8008, Nikkor 400/5.6 & TC14 (= 560/8), tripod
Film: Kodachrome 64
Exposure: Aperture priority center weighted meter, natural light, no fill
Scan: Minolta Dimage, full frame

Commentary: Old Sam's Pond is visited in the winter by almost every birder in NJ and often has an interesting or even rare bird present. Many of the wild birds that winter here get used to people who stop to feed the tame puddle ducks - the photographic challenge isn't necessarily getting close, but getting only one bird in the frame at a time. This image was taken under typical winter sky conditions on the Atlantic coast, and I like the soft wintry feel.
