Highway 9

All photos are by Lloyd G. "Pappy" Reynolds.  The negatives had a lot of moisture and are not very clear.

Highway 9 the infamous main road to Khe Sanh.  This is the road we ran convoy duty on.  Not much wider than the tank with brush right up to edge.  Perfect ambush country.  This is also the road where we saw a Tiger crossing.
The results of one ambush.  The NVA had set a Clamore type mine up designed to kill any Grunts riding on the tank.  And any crewmen with their heads exposed.
Even with the moisture spots you can still see the pellet holes in the sponson boxes.  The broken vision blocks and there are some pellets imbedded in the track blocks hanging on the turret.
The results of this ambush; Platoon Leader Harris Himes wounded,
Charlie Carson loader wounded,
Ron Shuppy driver ok due to a box of .45 Cal ammo placed on the tank fender.
