- WHEN? Select a date, more than 40 days in the future. Contact the NEDA secretary to obtain a drive/ ride santion form.
Complete the form to the NEDA office no less than 40 days prior to your event. Be sure to include your $20.00 sanction fee.
Your event will then be added to the calender, and your official sanctioning will be recorded.
- INSURANCE? NEDA carries a 1 million dollar liability policy from ARK Agency Animal Insurance Servicesobtained through
the North American Horsemans Association. You may obtain A Certificate of Insurance or have a party named an additional insured
through the NEDA office. The fee for EACH certificate is $10.00. to be paid directly to the insurance company.
- COURSE? Any type of terrain is accepable as long as it allows passage of the two and four wheeled vehicles the entrants
may use. It is NOT necassary that all sections of your course be negotiated at speed. Any distance 20 miles or longer may
be sanctioned. The same loop may be used 2-3 times if needed to obtain the required mileage.
- FACILITIES? You will need a space large enough to park the trucks and trailers, with ample room for the horses and equipment.,
You will also need water for the animals and a restroom. This is the minimum in facilities. Be sure to advise your participants
in advance about your facilities then they can determine what they will have to provide for themselves.
- TRAIL MARKING? Surveyor's flagging, (usually called ribbon), lime or dolomark (to make arrows) and signs, are the most
commonly used items to mark a trail. Proper course marking can be the single most important factor between success and failure
of your event. If the participants get lost or off course, no amount of awards or banquet can make up for it.
- FINISH? A finish line should be clearly marked so that the participants who are racing can see it from a distance.
The timing for the finish of the drivers MUST be done with a stopwatch or digital watch and recorded to the SECOND due to
the staggard start. There have been races won just by a couple of seconds!
- AWARDS Awards may include, but no limited to trophys for the winners, ribbons, clothing items, (t-shirts or caps)
lapel pins, or some useful item for completion awards. You may choose to have special awards such as team award, (one driver
and one outrider). There are awards such as breed awards, which can be given, and also awards for pairs and multiple hitches,
or for types of vehicles used. These awards are all at the discretion of the event manager.
- PAPERWORK? Now that your event is completed, you must fill out the paperwork. You will have received a Drive/ Ride
results form from NEDA. This was mailed to you when you received sancioning. Complete these forms and return to NEDA.
This paperwork must be received within 30 days after your event. Your participants and their animals will not have their points
and mileage recorded until these results have been received and fees paid.
- MEMBERSHIP? All participants to an event MUST be an NEDA member. This is due to the constraints of our insurance
policy. The event manager must collect these fees from all first time competitors and remit with the results.
