Wreck of the Marconi, 1910
Post card from Nellie Bernitt in Marshfield to Will Kolm in Schuyler, Nebraska, postmarked April 8, 1910.
The four-masted schooner Marconi was being towed out of Coos Bay on March 23, 1909 laden with lumber for Valparaiso. The hawser (towing rope) parted about midway over the Coos Bay Bar and she was driven onto the south spit and broken up by the pounding surf.
