SPC Line revisited: around the Lexington Reservoir area today.

My full name is Leonello Pesce, but all call me Leo.

I am a Southern Pacific fan since 1975, when I came to USA. Before that, it was Marklin only. In these 22 years, I always liked the diesel scene until 1991 (I think) when SP 4449, SP 2472 and UP 3985 came to the Bay Area. With a friend of mine, we followed the doubleheader 2472/4449 from San Jose to Watsonville. It blew me away. I had never experienced such display of beauty, power and sounds (for a more narrative note on that particular day, go to my Personal Page). I also discovered the beauty of SP steam engines, especially the MT series with skyline. If I could make a wish, I would bring back an MT-4 or MT-5. Anyway, since then I am steadily converting to steam and early generation diesels, but mostly steam.

I am an HO modeler. I am very fascinated by steam engines in general, but only from a model point of view, more than the actual working ones. This is because I like to watch them while running on the main, or just seating at the facilities.

The main reason for liking SP steam so much is their particular look they have, especially in the later part of steam, but I also like other specific steam engines from other RR or even countries, like Germany and Italy.

I do own a number of SP engines in brass, most old (the good runners) and some new (the good lookers). I have changed motors to can in a few, and other I no longer own. I do work on engines from members of the club in Menlo Park (West Bay Model RR) and from a store I work one day a week. Mostly cleaning and lubing, including open frame motors. (some engines I get are very frozen for being stored for years in their boxes; and do not get me started on the foam being everywhere in the engine)
