Little Northeast Creek
Jacksonville, NC

April 15, 2006

This was a marvelous and enjoyable paddle on an equally marvelous day. The participants were Mona and Levone Padrick, and Dale Weston all of Jacksonville and Kaley and Wil Stanley of Hubert and Elmer Eddy of Swansboro.
We decided to paddle Little Northeast Creek as we had only one chain saw with us and could not possibly remove the blown down trees on Northeast Creek.(We read in Onslow Government Citizen Reports, back in 2001 and 2002,how important it is to keep our streams clear of these fallen trees. What ever happened to this initiative? All of our creeks have total blockages on some sections and cannot be paddled or used at all!)

We hereby declare this section, about 2 miles, from Northeast Creek Park to Piney Green road to be free of all litter and trash. See pictures Dale Weston's trash laden canoe and of the pile under the "NCDOT No Tresspassing" sign. (If if some kind volunteers would like to pick up the N/E shoulder across the river at the bridge at Piney Green Road by land, NCDOT and our Governor would sure appreciate it as their contribution to Clean Sweep by Adopt-A-Highway now going on).
We also hope that this section of Northeast and Little Northeast Creek, this same paddle we made today, can become the very first "Blue Way" to be so designated in Onslow county.
countyCounty. Nothing has to be done to it.

The pictures show where we had to stop just a few hundred yards upstream from the bridge. . This creek should be cleared of all blocking fallen trees all the way up to Old 30 Bridge near Morton School. Dale and I did this earlier. We think Isabelle brought down this tree. This "BlueWater" Paddle Trail could then become a reality up to Old 30.
