Be
Nice Campaign
In March, 2004, the
MAGIC GARDEN community began its monthly voluntary "be nice"
campaign, by supporting a cause/charity/fund. Upon entering the party,
guests had the opportunity to donate to the monthly cause.
If you have a cause
that is of personal significance to you and would like to be the monthly
recipient of the MAGIC GARDEN's voluntary donation, please email
me the details. Here is the list:
- April 2004 -Fundraising
for The Fortune
Society. For 35 years, The New York City-based Fortune Society has
maintained a dual mission: to educate the public and decision-makers
on criminal justice issues, and to provide ex-offenders with the skills
and services they need to break the cycle of crime and incarceration
and to build productive lives in their communities. Every year, the
Fortune Society provides a wide range of services, such as housing and
career development, to roughly 2,000 men and women involved in the criminal
justice system and reaches out to more than 8,000 prisoners incarcerated
in New York City and State.
Eric Lucentini (Columbia Prep) is a Board Member for the Fortune Society
and will DOUBLE all donations made by MAGIC GARDENERS at the
April Party.
- March 2004 - Fundraising
for the April 18 MS
Walk team, "Walking For Say." If anyone would like to
make a donation, join the team, or fundraise, please visit their
site.

Just 45 days after the September 11 attacks, with virtually no debate,
Congress passed the USA PATRIOT Act. Many parts of this sweeping legislation
take away checks on law enforcement and threaten the very rights and
freedoms that we are struggling to protect. For example, without a warrant
and without probable cause, the FBI now has the power to access your
most private medical records, your library records, and your student
records... and can prevent anyone from telling you it was done.
If you would like
to volunteer with the New York Civil Liberties Union, in order to help
reverse the legislation that imperils our basic freedoms, please visit
the New York City Bill of Rights Defense Campaign at www.nycbordc.org

Did
you or someone you know attend or work at 92nd Street Y's Camp Yomi?
The 92nd Street Y's
CAMP YOMI is celebrating its 50th summer in 2004, and we are trying
to plan a reunion event. Did you or someone you know attend or work
at Camp Yomi between the years of 1955 and 1990? If so, please contact
Steve Levin at 212-415-5641 or camps@92y.org.
Cool
thing you should be involved with
Alec Appelbaum (Fieldston)
is developing a proposal for New Yorker by Nature, a guidebook of essays
about how landscape, weather and biodiversity shape life in the city.
The book will take readers through parks, piers, rooftops and bridges
to establish how intimately New Yorkers know the seasons and elements.
If you have a favorite outdoor spot or memory you'd like to see in the
book, or if you'd like to contribute text or images, contact Alec at
917-353-3717 or nyerbynature@yahoo.com.
