Pvt. Seth T Moses
Company B
Seth T. Moses was born. 11 Sept. 1819,
NY, possibly Lima. He is the second son of Charles Moses and
Ann Blakeslee. An older brother, born a year earlier, died
in infancy. Seth had several brothers that were in the Civil
War. Seth
married Esther Eliza Patterson in 1846. They
had six children between 1846 and 1862: Henry, James, Charles,
Wealthy, William, and Harriet. Esther was living in Kinsman,
Trumbull County, Ohio during the war.
Seth enlisted in CO. B 125th O.V.I. on 14 Aug., 1862 and
served as company cook until he was transferred to hospital duty
as a nurse. In Sept. 1863 he was transferred to the Invalid
Corps. He died at Jeffersonville, in the hospital on
04 Mar. 1864, burial location unknown.
The following letter he wrote from Franklin, Tennessee was sent to his wife Esther in Kinsman, Trumbull County, Ohio. He mentioned his children, except his second and third sons, James and Charles. It is possible, but not proven, that Joel Williams may have been a relative since he asks his wife to “tell my kinsman folks”.
