David Phillips Date of birth: 7 July 1846 near Athens, OH Enlisted at age 17. (Against the wishes of his father ) Was wounded May 9, 1864, at Rocky Face Ridge. Fell out of ranks again on 21 September 1864. While recouperating for illness at the Moore home he was captured and sent to Andersonville. The Moores were Southern and tried to protect David from being seen. But one day he was walking around their yard with his uniform on. David spent some time at Andersonville before being exchanged. He lost at least a couple of toes due to frost bite, and he talked about the spring that suddenly appeared in the prison one day. He was discharged on 20 June1865 by order of the War Department.
