Alfred Maxson was a 35-year-old farmer and father of seven who was enrolled 10/8/1862 at Martinsburg, Knox Co., Ohio in Co. F, , 125th Regiment of Ohio Volunteers to serve 3 years or during the war. He was mustered in as a private on 12/14/1862 at Camp Cleveland. On 9/20/1863, he was wounded at Chickamauga, the ball entering the underside of his left foot, passing diagonally across from the hollow to the ball and passing out behind the root of the big toe. On 5/14/1864 at Resaca, he was wounded in the left arm two inches below the elbow, the ball passing nearly directly through, badly fracturing one bone. He died 9/4/1878 in Elm Grove township, Labette Co., Kansas from complications of these wounds and was buried there. The exact location of his grave is not known.
