Henry Alonzo Donaldson was born
29 November 1840 in Lucas Richland, Ohio. He was the first son of Andrew
Donaldson and Nancy Moser. He had brown eyes, brown hair and stood 5’8”
as an adult.
Henry enlisted at Mt. Vernon
Ohio on 16 October 1862 as a private in the 125th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
He was promoted several times until his final rank of 1st Lieutenant. He
fought in several campaigns and was wounded twice, once by a bullet in
the left breast. He mustered out on 25 September 1865 at Camp Irwin, Texas.
Henry married Electa Ann Paxton
on 12 November 1865 in Newark, New Jersey. They had 2 children, Ivy Myrtle
born 23 November 1866 died 18 August 1884 and Fernleaf born 12 November
1870. Fernleaf married George W. Ohlendorf 12 February 1900.
After his war service Henry
lived in Cardington, Morrow County, Ohio for 6 years where his occupation
was shoemaking. In April of 1871 he moved to Baldwin City, Kansas where
his wife died on 12 May 1875. After her death he moved to Ottawa, Franklin
County, Kansas until 1884 when he moved to Lawrence, Kansas then Topeka,
Kansas in 1889. In 1895 he moved to Los Angeles California, which is the
last information I have on him. His death date is unknown at this time.
