The following is from "Blue & Gray" magazine of October 1991. Thanks to Bert Chapman for providing it.
Opdycke's Tigers, the 125th Ohio Infantry, erected a beautiful monument on the battlefield. It was for their gallant service on Snodgrass Hill during the battle of Chickamauga that their division commander, Thomas Wood, nicknamed them the "Tiger Regiment". A bas-relief of Emerson Opdycke and a scene from the battle adorn their monument on Snodgrass Hill, and atop of it is a carved tiger. Certain witnesses swear they have seen the tigar prowling the park at night, supposedly searching for it's emerald eyes. Visitors to the site when the moon is full have been frightened by a host of eerie "green eyes" staring out from the darkness.
