Christopher Columbus Clark was born 12 September 1833 in Portage County, Ohio to Sherman and Julia Ann Hobart Clark. Within a year of his birth, the family settled at Southington, Trumbull County, Ohio where he grew to manhood. On 22 December 1859 he married Sarah Chalker, a descendant of one of the first settlers in that area of Ohio. He enlisted in the 125th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company C on 12 November 1862 and was mustered out 12 November 1865. He was wounded at the Battle of Chicamauga during the second day of fighting on 20 September 1863.
After the war, he and his wife and children moved to Jefferson in Ashtabula County, Ohio. He was a farmer but was very interested in education. He and his wife had four children: Adelbert Benjamin, Sarah Ella, Alzada and Ernest. Christopher C. Clark died 19 June 1908 at his home in Ashtabula County, Ohio and is buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Ashtabula.
