Brookins Brittain's grave marke at Andersonville Prison

Brookins grew up in Sharon Twp. in Medina County Ohio. He lied about his age to enlist in the service on Nov. 7, 1862. Promoted to Corpl. on Nov. 13, 1862 and detailed as color guard on Feb. 10, 1863.  He was captured at Dandridge Tennessee on Jan. 17, 1864 and was then sent to Andersonville, Georgia where he died at the age of nineteen on Aug. 4, 1864.  His mother and father were Joseph and Mary Brittian. It was written that Mary would often cry, even up to her death for her son that gave his life for his country at age nineteen.
