Hauled for the survey 8/29/01.
Niniwahuni will receive a new, more substantial rub rail. The original was removed because of leaks and the factory rub strip does not extend out enough (about 3/4") to protect the cap rail. Many owners have added extra wood to the factory rail.

Niniwahuni's interior layout (the "Standard" or "Bachelor"). Also available was a "B" layout which included an "L-shaped" (some were straight) dinette seat and folding table.
Westsail 43's were available as Sloop, Yawl (deck stepped mast located aft end of raised deck boss) or Ketch (mast located foreward end of boss) with either a "short rig" 50' mast (shown - aft two chainplates mounted together) or a 55' "Tall Rig" option (center two chainplates mounted together), good for light airs. After talking at length with Bill Crealock and Kern Ferguson, Niniwahuni, originally a "Tall Rig", has been outfitted with a custom 52' mast.  Both men said that would be their choice given their own W43.  W43's came as Kit (WSSK3) or Factory (WSSF3) boats. In order of increasing parts, the Kits available were the "Bare Hull", "Hull and Deck", "Fiberglass Parts", and "Custom Sailaway". In order of increased "outfitting packages", the Factory options were "Voyager", "Passagemaker", "Shipmaster" and "Circumnavigator". Like many semi-custom built boats, the finished products were often a hybrid of one or more options and over time owners have added many personal touches.
The quality of construction and materials from the factory on all boats was very high and has been proven by the test of time.

Forward V-berth. A work bench is to port and a sail bin is to starboard (under the cushions). V-insert cushion shown in place, making two singles into a large double. With the portside tool cabinets, the port single berth is a little narrow. This cabinetry is expected to be modified to raised, enclosed shelving over both berths. The berth is too high for some to climb up to, but a good height for the work bench and easy to step down to from the hatch above. Therefore a step or lower seat of some kind will be installed.

Aft owner's cabin, starboard side. View is of forward bulkhead and outboard hanging locker and drawers. Clothes lockers throughout boat are cedar lined.

Aft owner's cabin. Double berth. Access to engine under bedside table (countertop comes off as well as doors) and along berth. Easy access to backside of fuse panel and instruments. Two 8D deep cycle house batteries and two Group 27 starting batteries, as well as waterlift muffler located under berth. Additional storage space still available.

Looking aft. Port quarter berth, seat/boot locker, hanging wetlocker and companionway. Excellent access to engine behind companionway steps. Quarter berth originally only a half berth, as generator (since removed) was located at aft end, has been converted back to a full length berth.
