FIRST DAY IN 1-J by Mrs. Janis' students

First we got off the bus and we walked to our new classroom.  We put our stuff into our desks and hung up our backpacks.  Then we learned LOTS of rules and met Focus.  We learned "The Color Song."  After recess and lunch, we had art class with Mr. Sciacca. We counted the letters in our names at math time and drew a self-portrait.  We talked about summer vacation and got ready to go home.  Now we are used to our brand-new classroom.

Between the Lions continues to thrill not only kids, but critics as well! The show that helps teach kids to read has won a second
Television Critics Association "Outstanding Achievement in Children's Programming" Award. Winner of last year's award in the same category, Between the Lions has once again been chosen for this television honor gven annually by the 22-year-old Television Critics Association.

"We are deeply honored to win the top children's award two years in a row," says Between the Lions executive producer Judy Stoia.
"It's a validation of what we're all about: to use the powerful force of television to help young children learn to read."

WAY TO GO!
The Between the Lions program and web site have just been endorsed by the National Education Association (NEA), the largest teachers organization in the U.S. This is the first time in over ten
years that they have endorsed an ongoing television program.

NEA president Bob Chase said, "This extraordinary program is a bonus for children and teachers. Not only will the series help beginning readers learn key skills that are essential to learning to read, the Between the Lions series and web site provide teachers, parents, and caregivers top-notch lessons that support learning. "It's rare that the NEA recommends TV, and even rarer for us to wholeheartedly promote a program. But Between the Lions breaks
the mold. It's quality television that supports quality teaching."
