The Veil had its origins in 1997 when Celtic musicians Cat Taylor, Deirdre McCarthy and Mark Ungar began to develop an exotic style incorporating eastern European and middle-eastern musical elements and exploring the possibilities of pathways to ecstacy through trance. Soon thereafter, they met lyricist/spoken-word artist Margarita. Their current recording project is a series of songs built around a set of Margarita's lyrics. In process over the last 3 years, the CD is almost done, with a projected release date of December 2001.

In many ways, this is our best work ever. We gave ourselves complete license in the composition process to just do whatever would be the most fun, and ended up blending many different styles, including acoustic folk-rock, heavy metal, Gothic trance, and middle-eastern rhythms. Some of the tracks feature spoken word, others are sung.
Margarita's lyrics deal with such topics as the voices of ancient Goddesses, Love, exotic destinations and Mystical Rituals, among others. For some reason, having the lyrics already written was a very liberating experience for me, freeing me to focus on channelling my musical ideas. Another wonderful experience was allowing ourselves to simply surrender to the one-chord groove thing.
