Oak wilt is becoming increasingly common in the Hill Country

Oak wilt is becoming a problem where I live, what can I do about it?

Many of the beautiful and majestic Live Oaks in the Texas Hill Country are dying an early death due to Oak Wilt. The unfortunate reality is that this disease is becoming quite prevalent and it looks like it is only going to get worse. Much of the time, it is spread by poorly informed landowners who don't understand where the fungus lives, how it reproduces, and what they are doing that hastens the infection of nearby trees. One of the best strategies is to properly dispose of infected wood and plant resistant oaks and other species to replace diseased trees. Resistant trees include Bur Oak, Chinquapin Oak, Mexican White/Monterrey Oak, and Lacey Oak.
