Welcome to my web site!
I am a private consultant who specializes in asset-based development.
I work with community organizations, congregations, and the institutions who support community building "from the bottom up"
.
I am honored to share this success with you. People
tell me that this work has made a real impact in their lives, or in their field of effort. My newest book, The Power
of Asset Mapping, is still a bestseller. I continue to be amazed at the spirit and energy I find in communities
across the United States and Canada. I see a larger movement toward generative, open development. I'm glad to be
part of that with you.
Please do browse this site to learn more about asset mapping, to
order publications, and to contact me for consulting services. Check
What's New for a run-down of my recent connections. And keep building on assets!
Thanks for visiting.

When we look at the "half-full cup," we recognize our assets and the
abundance of our community's gifts. But that's just the start. We soon discover that our own gifts are made more
valuable by connecting them to the gifts of others. Together we discover unexpected opportunities, and a whole that
is greater than the sum of its parts.
I am a developer, facilitator, writer, trainer, and speaker who specializes
in asset-based development. I have over 25 years' experience in every aspect of community, from economic development
to faith development, from construction to culture, from jobs and enterprise to schools and housing. I have worked successfully
in communities across the countryside, from small towns and rural areas to inner-city neighborhoods.
I have written several notable publications on community building, including:
- Community Transformation: Turning Threats into Opportunities
- The Organization of Hope: A Workbook for Rural Asset-Based
Community Development
- and my newest book, which has been a best-seller for the widely
respected Alban Institute: The Power of Asset Mapping: How Your Congregation Can Act on Its Assets.
LET'S WORK TOGETHER. I see my work as part of a larger movement
of "open-sum thinking." I respect and support the work of like-minded people. I take an interactive and cooperative
approach to my speaking, training, and facilitation work. Let's learn from each other and continue to grow our movement.

“The speaker who made the biggest impact on me was Luther Snow. . . Snow’s
message was simple but powerful.”
Oregon Capitol Press, November,
2002

On
The Power of Asset Mapping:
"This
book is revolutionary in the best sense of the word. It does a beautiful job of combining spirit and practice, It is both
useful and inspiring. While ostensibly aimed at congregational and religious life, it should be the operating manual for anyone
trying to transform institutions, communities or nations. It is designed for the use of citizens and also belongs in the hands
of the professional. Plus it stands on the solid foundation of research and theory conducted by John McKnight and Jody Kretzmer,
two leading lights for those who care about community."
