not see a monument to Georgia soldiers who participated in the battle. Is
there a monument to Ga. soldiers at Gettysburg?

Comments: Hi,
Thanks for posting the grave dedication ceremony for William Day. That is my
great grandfather! We are very proud of our southern heritage. Just so
happened that the ceremony took place on my daughters 20th birthday! I could
not go due to work obligations. Do you have a service that notifies of
reenactment events?
I would like to come out and see the 8th infantry in action. I have seen a few
one here at the Horse Park in Conyers. It was remarkable with calvery, cannons
and all the tents. Like stepping back in time.
Guess our grandfathers fought side by side.
Thanks again,
Karen

in your brief bio section. He may also be pictured in the photo taken in 1903.
We suspect he is the gentleman in the front row; second from the left. We have
a pictuer of him in his uniform from around the same period.

Comments: My Great-great grandfather, Alexander Allen Bohannon, was listed as
serving in the 8th Infantry Regiment, Company I, as a 4th Sergeant from
9/10/1863 until 01/31/1864. There is some question as to the company as some
information I have stated Company F. He lived in Newton County, so the Company
I seems more reasonable. I don't find any mention of him in your rosters since
these are from 1861.

Comments: Came across the web site while researching for information on Fred
F. Norton of Rome, Georgia. I have a diary he kept covering the period 6 Feb
1865 through 29 April 1865. He was at Appomattox at the surrender and then
traveled home. In reviewing the list I don't see his name. This is the
information he recorded in his diary:
Fred F. Norton
Private Co. C. 8th Ga Reg't.
Andersons Brig.
Army, N.Va.
I would appreciate any additional information or direction where to find
additional information. Thanks.

ancestor. He was in Company K -- Epps, Joseph----- private August 26, 1862.
Wounded at Spotsylvania, Va. May 12, 1864. Surrendered, Appomattox, Va. April
9, 1865. My Grandpa told me of his Grandpa, Joseph, from a story passed down
to him. The verbal story I was told matched these records very closely. Thanks
again for a great site. I noticed an Arnold in Company K as well, I guess I'll
have to check that one out now.

According to available information, he could have been no more than 16 years
old when he enlisted in May, 1861. He has no direct descendants since he was
unmarried and died at Gettysburg in July, 1863. He was from Sterling Bluff
Plantation on the Ogeechee River in Ways Station, Bryan County, Georgia. His
body with the others who died at Gettysburg was returned to Savannah in 1871.
Now he is buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery here in Savannah, GA.

Henderson. Also his brothers and sisters. Why was he appointed Captain after
his capture? When asked, " Will you pledge allegience to the government
he stated I never un-pledged".

I am the great-great grandson of Samuel J.G. Brewer (Co. I). If you're interested, I could possibly share some information about him with you. My

while serving with the 8th Ga., along with a couple of pictures of him.
Please add my name to the "Descendants" list and
feel free to contact me for more info on Samuel.

Comments: Hello, I found your site as I was researching the 8th Georgia to
look at the flag. I grew up in a home that was General Johnson's headquarters in Kingston. There I found in an old book a drawing of the flag on about a 4 x
6 card. It's the Second Bunting ANV flag. The red color appears to be done
with blood. Very interesting piece. I've researched the troops in Kingston but
couldn't find where the 8th Georgia was there during the Atlanta campaign.
Along with the drawing I also found some Confederate money. I enjoyed your
site.
