Overview: Jordan Lake Watch

updated: 29 April 07

This site is a repository for documentation of the continuing water-quality problems that now plague Jordan Lake, primarily photographs taken by various volunteers.

Each sub-folder on the site will contain an overview file (like this one) with a brief description of the contents, with occasional bits of commentary.

Wastewater continues to cascade down the Haw River & other tributaries that feed the lake -- from Greensboro, Burlington, Mebane, Graham, Chapel Hill, Durham. Stormwater polluted with sediment & nutrients flows in from virtually all points of the compass, but especially from lakeside development in Chatham County (along Big Woods Road) and in the area of Wake & Chatham Counties east of NC 751.

The inevitable & thoroughly-predictable result -- frequent muddy messes, complete with algae blooms & occasional (so far) fish kills.

Space is limited, as is volunteer time & energy, so this site will forever remain a work in progress. Please check back occasionally to see evidence of the continuous & continuing degradation of this once-beautiful resource.
