The Story Continues |
|||||||||||||||||||
The troops of the North continued their march around the mesa when suddenly, there was a sound of sliding rock and one face of the mesa parted revealing something sinister inside. Goblins began to emerge from their hidden chamber wielding axes and ready for battle. The Orris troops, while surprised, braced for attack. But then the unexpected happened. Grateful for being released from their stone prison, the goblins pledged an oath of fealty to Orris and vowed to fight along side them.
However, while the goblins moved into position along side a squad of archers, one of Strong Badia's Lighting Riders fired a bolt of chain lighting at the archers, felling four of them. Heavily clad in metal armor, Orris realized they were particularly susceptible to the effects of chain lighting as it jumped from one soldier to the next. Taking aim, they fired at the Rider, killing him. The Lighting Bird, now rider-less, stood guard over his former master's corpse.
Meanwhile Orris' Lizardmen began their ascent of Ancient's Keep, ahead of a Ranger and four Axmen. The Ranger spied a magical container, but could not currently reach it. The Axmen, dreading the climb, lumbered one rocky footstep after another, an impressive feat indeed carrying both axe and shield.
On the other side of Ancient's Keep, Draak decided it was time to take a more aggressive stance against Strong Badia. Trogdor, symbol of Strong Badia, Bastard of the Dragon Realm, had to be eliminated. The ground forces moved forward with the dragonflies flying directly over head. The Dragon Mages also moved into better position, spewing more dragonoil, increasing the area that was now ready to go up in flames. Strong Badia, fearing one of Draak's mounted knights, enchanted his horse such that he could not stop and could only travel along the same line he was already upon. The knight sensing that something was wrong, jumped from his steed. But one magical affect deserves another and Draak's human mages enacted their abilities. The hapless horse was suddenly portaled from one path onto another in the hope of having it collide with Trogdor. Yet it was not to be.
A Dragon Soldier flying over the crest of Ancient's keep huffed and puffed and burninated Trogdor, igniting the dragonoil as well. Trogdor was not the only one to fall in the attack. Two Dragonwolves, covered in dragonoil earlier, also perished in the field of fire as did the horse stampeding towards Trogdor. But the carnage did not stop there as two innocent peasants and an unsuspecting sheep went up in flames as well.
Yet even with all this smoldering death coating the land, still the earth continued to be disturbed in a determined line towards the ground-based Draak units. It was then that the Dragon Lord perceived it. The Shadow that caused so much destruction millennia ago was in their presence and in control of the kingdom of Strong Badia. Worse still, the Dragon Lord for a mere instant received insight into the Shadow's plan to enslave the army of Orris for its own evil purposes. The Dragon Lord knew at that moment what he must do.
Meanwhile, atop of Ancient's keep, Strong Badia's troops discovered an aged text not readable by them. So they threw it off the Keep, down to one of Strong Badia's wizards. The text appeared to be incomplete but said, "Only the Skull of the Revenant Tree can open the Chamber of Purity, the resting place of the Sword of Agot."
Like the initial revelations of the Swords presence, all wizards and mages received this knowledge. Yet none knew what to do with it. While a number of dragons could see the Revenant Tree, they decided to avoid it for the time being. Instead, they turned their attention to the Strong Badia troops gathering at the top of the Keep. Whatever the secret of opening the Chamber of Purity, keeping Strong Badia and Orris off the Keep was a priority. Two Dragon's Archers took aim at a mace wielding Strong Badia shock troop and felled him. But eliminating Strong Badia one troop at a time was not an option for they were portaling to the top, and approaching from two different stairways. In short, they were swarming the Keep. |
