The evidence appears to indicate
that Moses Gee was the son of Robert Gee and Nancy Hatwood of Orange Co.,
NC. This family moved to Missouri about 1820, eventually settling in Randolph
County. Moses later resided in Livingston (now Grundy) County before moving
to Lawrence Co., AR, in the mid 1840s. He and his wife are listed among
the founding members of New Hope Baptist Church, organized 20 Jul 1844
in Lawrence County.
Moses first appeared on the tax rolls in 1846
and was residing in Union Twp.e 1850 U.S. Census. Lawrence County probate
records prove that Moses died prior to 13 Oct 1857, when William J. Gray
was appointed guardian of James, John and Andrew Gee. Robert Gee likely
predeceased his father as he is not mentioned in the probate record.
