At the June 10th International Young Eagles Rally at Daniel Field, Augusta, Georgia (DNL) over 100 Young Eagles were flown. Here is what Larry Garner, EAA 172 Young Eagles Coordinator, wrote:

My most gracious thanks to all that helped out for International Young Eagles Day 2000 on June 10th.  Without each one of you helping, it could not have happened.  I was a bit concerned about being overwhelmed with the advanced promotion that we received; however, it went very smoothly.  I don't know why, but the thermals didn't become a problem and weren't noticeable until the last flights before noon.  Augusta Aviation offered a single pilot and plane for the adult flights, requiring many to wait their turn; but I didn't hear any complaints for the $5 ride's.  I did hear a lot of thanks for offering the kids this
opportunity and created a lot of interest for future flights.  Several asked how they could get in touch with us.  I did give them all our Young Eagles Hotline number (706-841-5705) for schedule updates and explained that they can leave a message if they wish to coordinate an event.

Here are the flight totals by pilot:

Tom Jackson flew 41 kids and a few adults bringing him up to 281.  He is going to be difficult to catch up with Dick Schoenfelder flew 26 kids bringing his total to 123.  100 flights qualifies him for the nice YE shirt, they'll contact you soon for size.
Tom Collins flew 24 kids, his total is now 148.
Larry Garner flew 27 kids, total now 199 (I searched for that one more).
Terry Florie's paper work is not included, he didn't turn it in.  I will include those numbers when I have them.

There were many on the ground that were an important part of the event as well.  Tom Collins, Al Newman performed pre-flights, Sondy Lawrence took lots of picture's that I will have for viewing this week.  I will send some of those to National. Others helped and I don't mean to leave them out by not naming them here.  Gerald  Boyd tethered his balloon that drew a lot of attention and added to the event.  Channel 12 came by and added us to their News at 6 on 12 that evening.  I have it on tape, it's short but it was a positive for flying.  If I can figure out how to put it on the net, I will.

Total from Saturday is 118, this year 198, total to date is 1657.

We had 52 adult names on the list for adult flights.

55 Young Eagles Flown at Wrens Fly-in

Larry Garner, the EAA 172 Young Eagles Coordinator,  said that the Young Eagles Flight Leaders flew  55 new Young Eagles during the Wrens Fly-in.  A half dozen or more adults were flown as well. The Flight Leaders included Larry Garner, Ron Netzer, Terry Florie and Dick Schoenfelder. Among those helping with the registration were Rita and Michael Garner, Anne Netzer and a couple more youngsters. Jamail Larkin, the national EAA Young Eagles Representative, was there greeting prospective Young Eagles and their parents as well as helping out with the registration. Larry said "I had several big kids that wanted to go again, but just didn't have the time.  Yes, it got hot and a little bumpy, but all seemed to take it well.  I had one young lady that leaned inward (almost in the lap of the one in the other seat) for the entire flight stating that she was afraid of heights.  She had more to say about how much she enjoyed it, after she got out, than the others."
