Auxilary Equipment

60mm Finder, (ETX60)

I purchased an ETX60 for $98. I thought that it would make a great finder and I could use the AutoStar drive for the 6" Cassegrain's mounting. It is hard to find a 60mm finder for $98. I removed the OTA from the ETX mount and sawed off the two axles. I made a mount for the OTA from a piece of 1/4" wall 3" diameter aluminum tubing. I made a three point adjustment on the back and front of the tubing. The tube is then bolted to a piece of channel., Figure 1.

The channel is then bolted to a mounting plate. I bolted the mounting plate in front of the focuser so that the eyepiece of the finder is very near the telescope eyepiece

Placeing the finder eyepiece near the focuser makes it very convenient for locating objects. Figure 2. I have found that finders are never close enough to the eyepiece. Transition from the finder to the eyepiece and back is extremely easy. This sort of convienience is necessary when you are near the top of an 8' ladder!
