Summer Chamber Music Concert Series/Festival

Now in its twelfth season at Fryeburg Academy, the International Musical Arts Institute is a summer community of musicians who range from young professionals and career-bound advanced-level conservatory students to established artists with international reputations. Since our first season in 1997, more than two hundred musicians, both aspiring young talents and seasoned professionals, have come from five continents to the Academy’s campus in Fryeburg, Maine, to make music together, to perform, to study and perfect their art.

 

 

The IMAI Summer 2008 Chamber Music Festival includes:

 

“Music for summer evenings”

At Bion Cram Library, Fryeburg Academy, Fryeburg, ME - 7:30 p.m.

A series of concerts presented by IMAI's resident artist/participants at the Bion Cram Library of Fryeburg Academy (air conditioned and fully handicapped-accessible - parking accessed from Bradley Street).  Our concerts take place Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. for four weeks beginning Thursday, July 10, through Saturday, August 2.

Admission at door - $12 adults/$6 seniors and students

"Music for Sunday Afternoons"

At Bion Cram Library, Fryeburg Academy, Fryeburg, ME - 2 p.m.

Chamber music continues on three Sunday afternoons - July13, 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. at the Bion Cram Library, Fryeburg Academy.

$12 adults/ $6 students

Free to seniors and those with mobility limitations

“Bach Concerto of the Week” –

Four concertos by the great J.S. Bach – one performed each week of our 12th summer season.

Saturday July 12 “International Night” - 7:30 p.m.- Concerto No. 3 in d minor for Two Violins and Orchestra, BWV 1043

Sunday July 20 - 2 p.m.– Concerto No.2 in E Major for Violin and Orchestra, BWV 1042

Sunday July 27 - 2 p.m.– Concerto No. 1 in a minor for Violin and Orchestra, BWV 1041

Saturday August 2 - 7:30 p.m. – Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 in B flat major, BWV 1051

“International Night”

Saturday, July 12 – 7:30 p.m.

Featuring works of Mozart and Debussy along with the Bach Double Concerto BWV 1043.  Meet IMAI resident artists of 2008 at a reception following the concert.

 

"Chamber Music à la française”

Thursday, July 17 - 7:30 p.m

Great works by Gabriel Faure, Jacques Francaix, Ernest Chausson and Cesar Franck, four French master composers of the 19th and 20th centuries

 

The Art of the Violin and the Piano

Thursday, July 24 – 7:30 p.m.

Works by Mozart, Prokofieff and Schubert performed by violinist and Artistic Director Eric Rosenblith and pianist and senior resident artist Heng-Jin Park, piano

 

"Treasures from Russia - Music and Art"

Saturday, July 26 - 7:30 p.m.

An evening of chamber music by Russian composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, highlighted by a special exhibition of the art of Russian orphanage children.

 

"Four for Six”  - a 20th– and 21st - Century Sampler of Four Sextets"

Wednesday, July 30 - 7:30 p.m.

Bion Cram Library

Fryeburg Academy, Fryeburg, ME

Music spanning the 100 years, including Prokofiev’s “Overture on Hebrew Themes” for string quartet, clarinet and piano along with string sextets by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu and IMAI resident artist Christopher Pegis, -

 and concluding with “Verklaerte Nacht” (Transfigured Night) by Arnold Schoenberg.

"Music-in-the-making"

Interested audience members are invited to come and listen-in on Monday evenings of "music-in-the-making"...up close, behind-the-scene rehearsals, master classes...all that goes into making music at IMAI. Monday evening, July 14 (featuring special presentation by renowned violin maker Douglas Cox), 21, and 28 at Bion Cram Library from 7:30 p.m. to whenever...give us a call first, or just stop by and listen a while.
