Since the 1840s, ornithologists and birders have recorded 429 species of birds in Wisconsin.

The checklist contains status and abundance codes, and will be updated periodically. Wisconsin's newest species have been officially added to the list of birds seen, including last year's Great-tailed Grackle, Rock Wren, and Green-breasted Mango. 
 
This Annotated Checklist for Wisconsin now includes a list of
species of "disputed origin", and a list of hypothetical species, which
were not previously included. (Scroll to near the end of the document to see both of these new sections.)
 
This version incorporates all recent nomenclature and sequence changes mandated as part of the updated Check-list of North American Birds, published by the American Ornithologists' Union (AOU). If you would like to access the North American Check-list, see it on the AOU website, at:
